Plutonium is the official community client for Black Ops 2 on PC. Free, safe, and required to join the mod lobby. Follow these steps.
Go to plutonium.pw, click Register and create a free account. Confirm your email.
Open plutonium.pwLog in on plutonium.pw and go to Downloads. Download plutonium.exe. Place the launcher in a permanent folder such as C:\Plutonium\ (not in Downloads or on your Desktop).
Make sure you have a full installation of BO2 via Steam. Plutonium will not work without the original game files. Note the path, for example:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty Black Ops II
Open plutonium.exe, log in with your Plutonium account. Select T6 Multiplayer (T6 = Black Ops 2). Point Plutonium to the BO2 install folder when asked.
Plutonium now downloads all required files and patches. This takes a few minutes depending on your connection. Do not close it during the download.
Click Play → Multiplayer. The game launches. Once you are in the main menu, you are ready to join.
